5 summer fun ideas

Summer’s finally here! It’s my favorite season so I like to pay homage to it every year. I love the longer days, vacations, and sand between my toes. I’ve come up with some fun things to try this summer to make it even more enjoyable. Let’s get summering!

1. Make a delicious frozen drink

Frozen Strawberry Limeade Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup diet Sprite
  • 1/2 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup of ice
  • 2 Tbsp lime juice
  • Honey as needed

Put all the ingredients into your blender and blend until it’s the consistency of an Icee. I made this concoction yesterday and it was delicious, while also being low calorie, only 80 per serving! Whipping these up is a great way to make a pool day a little more special!

2. Create an outdoor Comfy Lounger

Who knew kiddie pools could be used for so many fun things? Buy an inexpensive one, then fill it up with comfy pillows and blankets. You now have the perfect place for stargazing, watching movies in the backyard, or reading a good book!

3. make Ice Cream In a Bag

Ice Cream in a Bag Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream or half and half
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 tsp. of sugar

Put all the ingredients into a sandwich size bag. Make sure to get all the air out when you seal it. Then put this bag into another sandwich bag and seal. Take a gallon size bag and fill it halfway up with ice and 6 tablespoons of course kosher salt. Then put your sandwich bag into the gallon bag and seal.

Now get moving! You need to shake the bad for 5-10 minutes to make the ice cream. Have a dance contest to see who can make their ice cream first! This not only gives you a tasty treat but the added bonus of a little fun competition too!

4. Make a terrarium

A terrarium is perfect for those who were not born with a green thumb or don’t want the commitment of caring for a garden or a plant. Plants in a terrarium are very resilient and require little care. They are also extremely easy to make!

Instructions

  1. Start with a clean clear jar. (A mason jar is perfect.)
  2. Cover the bottom with a layer of rocks or pebbles.
  3. Add a small layer of activated charcoal.
  4. Add a small layer of moss to keep the potting soil and charcoal separate.
  5. Add a thick layer of potting soil. (soil for indoor plants.)
  6. Add your plants. (succulents or little ferns are perfect.)
  7. Then add moss or other decorative features around your plants.

Voila! You now have your very own indoor garden to enjoy!

This is something you can do wherever you happen to be this summer. You can play these games at home, in a new city, or in your town! We have our phones with us at all times. We may not consider ourselves photographers, but the majority of us do take a lot of pics with our phones. These photography games are fun and they will add some creative shots to your gallery!

8 Fun Ways to Feng Shui

What is Feng Shui?

It was originally practiced in China and its roots stem from early Taoism. Taoists believe in chi or the life force that is in every yin and yang element. They believe by balancing yin and yang, you can improve the flow of positive chi in your life and keep the negative chi away.

Feng shui is a method for balancing yin and yang. The flow of chi can be improved by the placement of furniture and decorations in your home. Many people believe that arranging things to create positive chi will guarantee good health, improve interpersonal relationships, and bring luck and prosperity.

I hope by reading this blog you will learn how to incorporate some Feng Shui ideas into your home or office. My hope is that it will bring lots more positive chi into your life!

8 Ways To Feng Shui

Declutter: This is very important for Feng Shui. Clutter around your home takes up valuable space. For new positive energy (chi) to enter your home, you need to make space for the new energy.

Slow Down the Energy Flow: When there is a direct line of sight between the front door and the back door the energy goes through the house too fast. You need to slow down the energy flow by putting a patterned run in your entryway, artwork on the walls, or adding a round entry table.

Balance the Five Elements: The five elements are earth, wood, fire, water, and metal. Your home should contain colors and objects that strike a balance of all five elements.

Adding colors that represent the elements is one way to balance the five elements: Black=Water, Green=Wood, Red=Fire, Yellow, Tan or Brown=Earth, White=Metal

In addition to adding colors that represent the elements, here are some other ways to incorporate the elements into your home:

Water Element: A water feature, items that are curved, peaceful images of water.

Wood Element: Real plants. Jade or bamboo plants are great choices.

Fire Element: Candles, triangles, and heart-shaped objects.

Earth Element: Rocks and crystals.

Metal Element: Mirrors, shiny objects, decorative bowls, statues, or small sculptures.

Now that you are aware of what represents the different elements take a look around your home. Does it look like the five elements are balanced? If not maybe you can add or delete items to make it more balanced.

Close the Lid On Your Toilet: In Feng Shui, it is believed that this is the biggest drain of energy in a home. So before you flush, close the lid.

Want More Opportunities? Add a red flowering plant or some red accent colors on or around your front door. Red (fire element) attracts energy, fortune, and luck.

Use Your Front Door: Many people enter and exit through their garage. If you do this, try using your front door more. Open and close it when you go to get the mail or take your dog out. This is how chi enters your home.

Do a Space Clearing: This clears the energetic space. Diffuse orange essential oil or visualize bright white sunlight filling and cleansing your whole home. When you space clear your home visualize a positive intention, which is something you want to cultivate and create in your life.

Offer Gratitude: Thank your home. Feng Shui is a Shamanic tradition that believes everything is alive, including our spaces.

I know that having good positive energy around us is very important for our physical and mental health. Feng Shui gives us a way to bring this good energy into our homes and our lives. I hope that you learned about some Feng Shui methods that you will want to try and I hope that they bring you lots of amazing energy, fortune, and luck!

How to honor your introverted child’s temperament

I have been an introvert my whole life. I am middle-aged now, so I feel that makes me somewhat of an expert on introverted things. When I was growing up, the word introvert was not the mainstream concept it is today. My parents always said I was shy and sensitive. They raised me to think that these were qualities of my personality that needed to be overcome, not embraced.

I spent my childhood, teens, and young adult years trying to be more social, outgoing, and tougher. I don’t blame my parents for this. They didn’t know that what they were doing was detrimental and I know that they were trying to help me.

That being said though, If you are a parent reading this, I implore you not to make your introverted child feel the way I did growing up. They deserve you to accept, embrace and be proud of who they are innately. I hope that this blog will help you to do that.

“I was not the kind of kid you could say go to your room

as a punishment, because my room was heaven to me,

my isolation was welcome.”

-Jim Carrey

Special traits of your introvert child

-Introverted children have a very well-developed inner world. They are born with a strong inner guidance system. They will often look within for guidance and not outside themselves for support or guidance.

– Bright and curious about the world. They want to know about everything in their world on a deeper level. (My favorite thing when I was a kid was my best friend’s family’s set of encyclopedias. I had so many questions that I found I couldn’t get answered, so the encyclopedias were amazing to me!)

– Possess wisdom beyond their years and they can step outside themselves and reflect on their behavior. This is not something all children can do. In my experience, I’m not sure it is something most adults can do.

– Observers. They prefer to watch something first and then try it. They don’t like to jump right into something. Which means they are less likely to engage in risky behaviors.

-Make decisions based on their likes and values. They choose their music, books, shoes, clothes, and hobbies and they could care less if it’s what’s popular. This quality makes them less likely to succumb to peer pressure.

-Thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers. They try hard to understand human nature and try to figure out what makes someone tick.

How you can nurture your introverted child

-Being an introvert means that you gain energy from spending time alone. So make sure that you don’t overschedule your child. Allow them plenty of time at home, where they can play and do activities solo.

-Space out activities and social times throughout the week with free days at home between them. This will give them time to recharge.

-Know that your child may have only one or two friends and that this is perfectly normal. They are never going to be social butterflies with tons of friends. It is important to let them know that you think this is okay too.

-They are deep thinkers so encouraging reading, taking them to museums, and visiting art galleries are all amazing ways to nurture your young introvert.

– Our society is a lover of extroverts, so it is important as a parent to counterbalance this bias by helping your child feel comfortable with who they are. To let them know that about 40% of people in the world are introverts and that they are wonderful and special.

-Share with them all the special traits that they possess because they are an introvert.

-They like to assess and observe a situation before they join in. Let them do this instead of pushing them into an uncomfortable position, which may make them dislike something before they have even given it a try.

-Many children who are introverts are also highly sensitive. These two qualities oftentimes go hand in hand. This sensitivity should be nurtured and encouraged because it is one of the things that makes them special. This sensitivity also correlates with artistic ability. An artist must be sensitive to create art. That’s why many introverts are also extraordinary artists, musicians, actors, writers, dancers, etc…

I hope that this blog will help you to honor your introverted child’s temperament. You are very lucky to have this special soul in your life. Our world needs more deep thinking, reflective and artistic people in it. So let’s nurture and support the little ones who were born to do just that!

Countless Wrongs

I remember her, small and sweet.

Not here long, but already having a sense of all the wrong.

Full of fear, but also hope, not knowing how to cope.

She’s still here, an innocent soul, who plays her role, but has no idea of the goal.

She feels it all, but now she’s built a wall. Always prepared for a fall.

She wonders if she’ll ever feel like she belongs in this world of countless wrongs.

A mother's love is strong and true, the best thing to happen to me, will always be you.
An invisible tether connects my heart to yours, I want to fight all your wars.
I know you must go your own way, I always knew the time would come one day.
My heart goes with you, and will always be yours. May your way ahead always be filled with open doors.
